    Default Memphis woes

    Howdy all,

I recently a acquired a gently used Memphis and have run into some issues.

After playing the amp for 2 days, I suddenly had a severe volume loss. I took a look at the power tubes to find one of them on the verge of melt down. I didn't know how old the tubes were, so I ordered a new matched set. All was well for a few hours after install, but suddenly no sound, all tubes are redplating (although not to the sam degree as before) and I detect a faint acrid smell. So, shut her down again. Is this a known problem? And, any Fryette service in NJ? I would love this amp if it would keep working.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

Probably the new tube set had one or more weak ones. Which brand did you use?
Did you let them burn in a bit before turning on the stand-by?
    Serial number?
Looking at the back, does the power tube cage completely surround the power tubes?

    Howdy,

The new tubes are Ruby EL84CZ, from Doug's Tubes.
I did let them burn a bit before turning on.
    Serial is m30ck100100.
I removed the power tube cage to observe the tubes when I received the amp, and have left it off.

Edison nj is quite a distance from me, any other options?

    Thanks
    Patrick

Probably one of the new tubes went bad. You don't need to go to an authorized shop. If you have someone competent nearby we'll work with them
