Oh shoot sorry man. I re-read my thread title and I could see how one may think I thought the speaker is a new model. :p Did you like it with the VHT voicing? I think it really works well with it.
I just replaced the 6L6's my '93 UL with Sovtek KT88's. I've never heard this amp with these tubes before. It sounds great.
My question is; what is the amps output wattage rating now? Still 100w? ...
I'm not sure I understand...are you thinking I'm claiming this is a new speaker or something LoL! It's simply a new speaker I found to use with my UL (that I hadn't tried before)
The Mesa Black Shadow MC90!
My previous speaker choice has been the Mesa V30, but was looking for a speaker with bigger lowend and more clarity. The V30 is my go to with most all my amps, but I new...
IMO, unless you are hearing volume drops, experiencing blown fuses or noticeably losing low end I wouldn't change the power tubes.
The blue color you are seeing is perfectly normal, it's called...
Ha Ha, thanks guys. Whenever a new one comes in, I can't seem to let another one go. So they just keep stacking up.
Not pictured is a Laney GH50L. I might be letting that one go. But I really don't...
I've been here a little while, but didn't realize this sub forum existed. So I thought I'd contribute.
My 1993 UL.

Best speakers and cab I've tried with my UL is a Mesa 4x12 with their 70 watt UK V30's.
If you want a 2x12, check out the Recto 2x12.
Your UL sounds a lot like mine. A 1993 G100 model.
Info I found on the KT90 I found is a follows;
The KT90, or in full, "Kinkless Tetrode 90", is a beam power tetrode and features the same octal...
Yeah, could very well be. But the difference between the Mesa V30 and the regular Celestion V30 has more to do with the sound than the wattage. The wattage is just an identifier in this case.
My...
...with my UL.
I like V30's, but the Mesa 70w UK V30 seems to suit my VHT much better than the 60w China V30. The Mesa V30's are smoother and thicker sounding. Really aggressive without being...
I did this with my VHT when I got it, with great results:
- Groove Tube in V1, added sizzle and edge.
- High master volume setting. 2-3:00 minimum.
- V30's and V12 Legends. Mesa 4x12 and Randall...
Great info that I've read many times over, but I find myself craving even more, detailed info about the progression of these legendary mammoth amps.
I've read that there are differences through the years, but I have only playing experience with my recently acquired 1993 UL.
The gain is pretty saturated, with the edge button pushed in and the...
OK time to update;
I switched the amps impedance to 4 ohms and played it at half power through my 8 ohm 2x12 cab.
I feel the tone is almost the same...only slightly fatter, smoother and less...
Well, I know to half the impedance when physically removing 2 of 4 power tubes in an amp. I guess I just assumed when amps employ an actual half power switch that the impedance is somehow auto...
Good stuff guys!
I'm running the amp at 8 ohms through an 8 ohm cab and the results are great. Haven't done any impedance mismatching, guess I haven't had the need to since I found a good match for...
Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards. I don't know the tubes history so I'll look at replacing them at some point. Right now it sounds excellent at half power though. I think KT88's will have to be...
Now, I own lotsa amps. Some 50/60 watts, others 100/120.
I mostly notice a change in punch, lowend and overall size of the tone between the wattages. Not really a volume or loudness thing for me.

Thanks for the great info and warm welcome Mat_P, HellfireSG and of course Support!
I did notice the oscillation added noise and strained tone with the AX7. It felt great under your fingers, but...
Hello, new member and first post.
I recently picked up a 1993 G-100 UL.
I've read that the AU7 is not interchangeable with an AX7 despite the direction on the back of the amp.
This amp has all...
