Pre's and Pwr. I bought mine used and it has JJ's all around. I've heard the aren't the best in the UL. So, I'd like to know what the stock tubes are, and if they are the best to go with.

I just read a couple of times that Steve Fryette prefers using Sovteks because he finds them to be the most consistent tube. He said especially JJ's seem to have a large variance in performance.

I used Svets KT88 in my 100 and Svets EL34 in my Classic and like them a lot. Also they hold up very well.

Don't know about the UL but I can tell you that my 2004 CLX came with:

V1 Sovtek
V2 - V5 Ruby
There is a spare Sovtek also!

Ruby power tubes.

No got it from someone who only had it about 2 months. I don't think he swapped any tubes. I believe he left it as he got it from Tone Merchants.

My UL has Svetlana 6550's, Sovtek 12AX7WB for V1, Ruby's V2 through V4. Not sure about V5 and V6.

I put a 12AX7EH in V1, sounds better to my ears and is less hissy and hummy.
I'm waiting for a set of EH KT88's to try.

Sovtek power tubes. V1 is a sovtek 12ax7 LPS, and the rest of the pre's are Chinese. I believe V2-4 are 12ax7, V5 is a 12at7 and V6 a 12 ax7. Don't quote me on that part as my UL only has V1-5 (mine is the version before they had 2 pre tubes in the power section /shrug). The Ruby's peeps have in theirs are prolly relabled Chinese. This is the way (last I heard) VHT recommends tubes to be replaced, and also the way they come stock. (At least in a UL).

Well, I got the EH KT88's today so I've been playing around with them this evening.
Before I actually biased them with the DMM I simply started playing and put the pot where I liked it best.
Turns out that's around 250mA for the four so 62-63 mA per tube.
Does anyone have an idea if that's safe to run ?
Plate voltage is 462-463 V.
There's no strange glowing in the tubes and the OT doesn't get hotter than normal.

Thanks.

that's pretty high. They will sound tighter and last longer around 41-48mA's per tube. If you really like the way they sound now, maybe back it off a little.

I am puzzled by the b+. Mine is at 498 I think. Or 489, but not lower than that.
